ABOUT US

FASTER & BETTER.
THIS IS HOW WE DO IT.

OUR STORY

Since the discovery of the Postmasburg Manganese Field (PMF) in 1922 mining was primarily concentrated on the manganese ores of the Eastern Belt until the 1960’s when exploitation of the manganese ore shifted to ore of the Western Belt. Manganese mines were opened on the farms Bishop 671, Lohatlha 673, Glaucester 674, Paling 434, Lomoteng 669, Magoloring 668 and Doornfontein 446. Operations ceased during the 1980’s in favour of the higher grade manganese associated with the ores of the Kalahari Manganese Field (KMF).

The disproportionate surge in demand for manganese ores from 2007 and vast technological advancement allowed for the use of lower manganese grades as a raw material in steel production, coupled with the Chinese imports of the ore as the number one importer of the ore gave rise to the lower grade materials in the Postmasburg Manganese field’s demand.

In 2007, Emang Mmogo Mining Resources was established as a Manganese & Iron mine with grades of 28% - 38% Manganese grade ore. Emang has since grown in leaps and bounds to become an established mining house that produces upwards of one million tons an annum. Emang Mmogo is one of a few privately held, wholly owned black family mining companies. The largest wholly owned black mining company in South Africa.

Emang Mmogo Mine is situated on the remaining extent of portion 2 of the farm Magoloring 688 measuring 819.9335 hectares, the remaining portion of Portion 2 (Marthaspoort), Portion 4 ( a portion of Japies Rust) & Portion 5 ( a portion of Marthaspoort) of the farm Magoloring 668, situated in the Magisterial / Administrative District of Kuruman measuring 1713.5530 hectares.

The company shoulders the responsibility of actively mining responsibly, providing value to its shareholders, and doing so responsibly and sustainably. This approach ensures future growth and a positive impact not only on the community at large but on the positive economic contribution to South Africa. Emang will continue to invest in the project as it has over the last 15 years.
